Major League Gaming 2008: Meadowlands Opener

Apr. 13 2:13 AM by Miz_Calamity

Well the Major League Gaming 2008 Opener is slowly coming to a close. This year looks to be promising with my favorite team, Carbon, showing their old spirit of having fun while gaming is proving to work in their case. This year they did things a little differently. Major League Gaming started off with an online tournament for Halo 3 that started back in February. This tournament would give the Top 16 teams a guarantee pass to attend the MLG opener event in Meadowlands. So when this season started there are definitely people expecting quite a lot from those Top 16 Teams..but how did they do? Did they live up to expectations or did they fall from glory?

Through Winners Bracket Round One there were no major upsets. Many of the Top seeded teams plowed through their competition sending them to the losers bracket right away. By the time Winners Bracket Round 3 came around everyone was pumped because arch-rivals: Carbon and Str8 Rippin would face off. This team has a HUGE history and quite frankly they just don't like each other. This match was set on center stage and brought the BIGGEST crowd that anyone has seen all weekend.

Exclusive Interview: GAMER BEAUTIES

Apr. 2 5:03 PM by Miz_Calamity

By now everyone has heard of the infamous PMS (Pandora's Mighty Soldiers formerly known as the Psychotic Man Slayers) Clan and the FragDolls. Both groups are very well known within the gaming community and you will always see them at the nearest tournament. But I am not here to talk about them, I am here to bring to everyone's attention a group of Gamer Girls who are kicking butt and slowly making a name for themselves --the Gamer Beauties (formerly known as Halo Beauties).

I will be doing a monthly article on these awesome ladies and their travels through the MLG Tournament Season. I am now proud to present:

March 2008 Tournaments

Feb. 26 10:05 PM by NuyoRiquena

What is considered the professional gaming season is just around the corner. Typically beginning around Spring Break and continuing on through summer, this is a time of hardcore competition, reunions and celebrity fanfare. Gamers love meeting their teammates and friends in person, gaming it up all day and partying all night. As most people know, the LAN experience is tremendously different than gaming online. So where does one get the practice and experience necessary for LAN tournaments? I decided to let you know of some of the more professional level competitions for next month but I only have a few this time.

Jan. 15 5:26 PM by Nikole

Hello Ladies!!!

One of the sites I work with, TheGamerGirls.com, is looking for some girls to play on their Gears of War team. They are looking for one-two girls to join the team TGG Twice as Nice. They are currently the highest seeded girls team. They plan on attending all the MLG's and sponsorships are available and vary by level of commitment.

So if you are a badass female gamer with a flexible schedule and willing to travel and of course want to play LAN and competitively, let us know!

For more information go to their myspace.

Tournament Competition Begins!!

Jan. 6 3:28 PM by Miz_Calamity

One of my New Years resolutions was to become better at competitive gaming. Last year I pretty much took the year off to decide what I would do for 2008...whether I would actually compete or if I would just interview and support. After playing Halo 3 a lot recently I have decided that I would try to find myself a decent team for the whole season...play some online tournaments...and place at an event.
Well for those that don't know MLG --Major League Gaming-- has announced the release of version 3 of their game types for Halo 3 next season as well as having announced that NBA Star Gilbert Arenas will be sponsoring the first Online Gaming Ladder event for MLG. Meaning every online event after that will have fees..but hey being able to save money on the first online event is fine with me! For those that don't know Gilbert Arenas sponsored one of the top ranked MLG Pro Teams Final Boss this past year and he has been a HUGE supporter of MLG/competitive gaming. For more information on how the online tournament will work visit: MLGPro Website. To download the new gametypes visit: MLG FileShare.

MLG Orlando..Afterthoughts.

Sep. 23 5:35 PM by Miz_Calamity

So I have finally returned from the craziness that is MLG Orlando. Gotta say for the first time EVER I didn't have to deal with the immaturity that usually comes with attending these events. The venue was HUGE! It was hosted at the Walt Disney Dolphin this year. As far as the turnout of gamers?? Not as big as I had expected...at the other MLG Events that I have attended over the past years the venues were always packed to the point that it was hard to even get through the crowds. But I had no trouble walking around in this one.

The gamer girl turnout was in full force though. Which excited me, I wanted to see what new talent these girls had to bring, but also because a lot more teams were starting to get girls to even coach them.

Just that alone is showing how much of an influence that girl gamers are having on the gaming community. Aside from the daily trash talking that goes on you are actually able to find a team that values the opinion of these females so much that they have them as an extra set of "eyes" for them.
