Year of the Survival Horror

This years E3 may have been lacking much excitement, but for us survival horror fans, it was a good show. Three big hitters were shown and more info released at E3. I personally am looking forward to this fall, with Silent Hill: the Homecoming, Resident Evil 5, and Left 4 Dead, it is guaranteed to be one scary season. Check out the trailers and decide for yourselves.

Silent Hill: the Homecoming: (scheduled to release in September)
I have honestly been trying to not research this title out too much, I am a huge Silent Hill fan and believe sometimes trailers and the game developers can give away too much (just look at the Dark Night movie trailers...jesus, they show you just about all the good points of the movie!). I have watched a few demo walkthroughs to make sure it has that special Silent Hill feel to it, and while browsing the net, I could not help but see this little gem. Whether it's officially true or not, I do not know. I kinda wish I had not seen it, would have rather been surprised...but now it has just confirmed that I will definitely be buying this game on release date.

Resident Evil 5: (scheduled to release in March 2009)
With the announcement of co-op play in the newest Resident Evil, it's hard to not become almost obsessed with this title. No more watching my boyfriend playing it, no more taking turns...now we can play one of my favorite series together. This is huge, the only other true survival horror game that allowed co-op was Obscure which was only fun b/c of the co-op aspect, I am glad the game developers are making alot more games that allow more than one player, and I am glad this type of gameplay has officially made it's way into the survival horror genre.

Left 4 Dead: (scheduled to release in November)
Multiplayer zombie game...really, it can't get much better than this. More and more about this title keeps dripping out, just enough to keep my excitement growing.

hmmm... Dead Space or Siren or actually Dead Rising for the Wii. That is so awesome that they are porting it!

I'm looking foward to Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Silent Hill is really shaping up. I hope that they keep that physics engine they were talking about still in there (where you can interact with furniture as you do in real life, like bumping into causes it and everythig on it to move and so on) and asfor Resident Evil...How can that not be good. I hope they do off-line co-op. And then I can't wait for Resident Evil: Degeneration.

RE5,Silent Hill and Siren are the horror games for me. Besides Sheva is hot =)

why am i not surprised that you are missing Siren: Blood Curse from this list. which from what i have been seeing is impressing people. but i guess i shouldnt be surprised being this site can be a bit 360-centric at times.

The controls were very difficult to maneuver and the ghost sight or whatever it was called was too gimmicky for me. So the second on is VERY low on my list. The three above are more worth mentioning as my top 3 survival horror games that I am personally looking forward too.

I am going to get Resident Evil 5, Dead Space, and the new Siren, I heard the new Siren is impressing a lot of people. Siren could be the new underrated game this season.

have you actually played the demo? or are you basing it just off the old game? the game looks on par with an RE5 visually. and that is impressive for a PSN game.

SILENT HILL
Any silent hill can beat any othe game anytime, i say this because when it comes to survival horror i can say:been there done that, is one of the genre that i play the most. SH homecoming will be excellent, along with Resident Evil, but Silent hill will be the best series, . It could be a lot better if they add the gore like the Postal games.
Left for 4 dead is great too, the trailer looks awesome,

HATMANTC5157: Where is the demo...have you played it? I am basing my opinion (and that's all it is) on what I have read and seen on the second one. Of course my dislike of the first one will play a part in my opinion, but at the same time I am looking at it with as open of a mind as I can. When you dislike a game of course you will be somewhat skeptical of the sequel, that's normal.

This is just a list of my top 3 as of right now. That's all it is...I never said Siren 2 would suck, all I am saying is I have not seen or read enough for me to put it above RE5, Silent Hill or Left 4 Dead.

Out of those three games I want Left 4 Dead the most.

Out of all the survival horror games I know are coming I want Dead Space the most.

zombies is something i love just as much as ninjas.

I got to demo Left 4 Dead today at Valve's room. It's pretty sick - I did not expect the game to be that awesome. You really feel the terror in this game - not only that, but the mobs are SICK! Today, we had four of us playing on the screens. We had one of the guys get attacked by this mob of 20 and we had to spam shotguns and ammo on these fools. It's such a good game.

Hey ditzy, it is spelled The Dark "KNIGHT", not the friggin' K! But in all seriousness ResiEvil5 looks good, and with what is apparently a black chick helping kill zombies (Stills looks white to me...), maybe all this racism talk will settle down. Left4Dead looks questionable...

Left 4 Dead looks incredibly good to me. I love co-op games.

im looking forward to RE5 but I think that, like most horror games, I wont play it if im alone LOL.

Playing it alone is what makes it good, i have my gaming set up in my own room, but when i play a survival horror transprot my consoles to my basement, is creepy since they have some weird clowns collectibles that they belong to my dead aunt, some bizarre paintings made by my grandfather, and is way dark and silent and i play them always in night. what most people dont understand about that genre s the thrill of the fear, thats what i like about silent hill, is more like a psychological bizarre creepy macabre headtrip than a survival horror game. Silent hill will always rule in my gaming library. so my advice to all of you is PLAY THEM ALONE IN THE DARK. muhahaha (evil laugh)

I believe Fatal frame is also coming out this year for the Wii, isn't it? Even though I like Silent Hill and RE better, Fatal Frame had its moments. Dead Space is also looking very good so far. I am hoping that EA won't mess this one up. I will wait to see how Left 4 Dead turns out before saying anything about it. I am not very impressed with it so far.

I am happy with the fact that we have so many high profile survival horror games coming out this year since we only had some very few that were worth anything during the past few years. Condemned (both of them) is pretty interesting too.

My favorite survival horror game has always been Silent Hill because its mood is heavier and creepier than even RE. RE always was more like an action game but very good as well. Silent Hill's action part were always a bit weird but I like it better even considering that.

I liked the first Siren btw. This one that's supposed to be released over PSN has to do with some other people but it seems to happen during the very same events the first one did. What I liked about Siren was the fact that all you could pretty much do was really survive. You couldn't hope to kill the creatures and in some chapters, all you could do was run away and I actually used that sight power a lot. I could only manage to get past some of the areas with it. I only wanted this game on disc format instead of a download.

Understatement of the Year. That movie was insanely too good to shove into a few action-packed trailers.. 3 hours of bad ass material.

Back on Topic: Yes I'm highly excited for a new Silent Hill <33 Resident Evil 5 is looking to be really promising and that new chick is kind of hot. Left4Dead <3333 Need I say anything about it? And woo for Fatal Frame 5 too. Allllll Must-Buys.

While a bit late, I agree with Navie. I just can't play most Horror games on my own. Condemned 2 and F.E.A.R. being the only exceptions. The whole Co-op thing for games like RE5 and L4D looks epic though and I can't wait for it.
