Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - DS? Xbox? Wii? PS3?

May. 15 7:51 PM by FemmeFatale

I've been pondering which console I'm going to play one of the most anticipated games of the year on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. I don't own a PS3, or a DS, and my PSP is accompanying my brother on the rigs of northern Alberta, to probably not be seen for many months to come. That leaves me with two choices: The Xbox 360, or the Nintendo Wii...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed bridges the gap between Episode III and IV, where you will play the game as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. Sent out on perilous missions, traveling across the SW universe, you will learn more about events that were lightly covered in the trilogies, like Order 66, which sidious enforces at the end of Episode III.

After reading the article '2008: A New Hope', featured in this months issue of GamePro Magazine, I've decided to use the vast amount of information the article has provided me with to sift through the goodies TFU will serve up for each console, and to choose the rightful system... Now, before any of you smart alecs say anything, NO! I cannot afford to buy The Force Unleashed for each console. It's one, or the other. So which side shall I turn to?

Wii Features:

  • Wii Lightsaber Main reason? You'd feel pretty freakin' bad ass with one!
  • - Motions: Down to Up, Up to Down, Left to Right, Right to Left, Blocking, & straight thrusting
  • Cool Nunchuk Controls
  • -Force Lightning, Choke, Push, Grab, Maelstrom, Repulse, etc...

  • Duel Mode:
  • - 27 playable Apprentice, Master, Jedi, and Sith characters - Nine levels, including arenas from the movies as well as from the game

  • Jedi Temple Level Exclusive to the wii!
  • - Naar Shadda & and Expanded Cloud City Stage

  • Characters & Missions
  • - Five extra missions & Characters that wont be found on Next-Gen consoles

360 Features
  • Graphics
  • -Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) technology: Physics engine that simulates how a physical object would react in the real world. Ie: If you force throw an object into glass, it will smash and shatter depending on its weight and type of material - on screen, just like it would in real life
    - Euphoria: A Behavioral-simulation engine that permits characters to behave like actual human beings: from moving to acting to, if you can believe it, even thinking! Since it's simulated, as opposed to scripted, you'll never have the same experiences when you encounter a euphoric situation

It's quite tough to explain to someone that has never heard of these two engines.. Here's A video that visually explains it, and shows clips of DMM and Euphoria when applied to TFU. Check it out, it's truly amazing.

Conclusion

Well it has taken me a week to put this entire time consuming article together, but it has given me plenty of time to further research and decide what console I'm going to play Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on. My decision has been made and is now finalized. It all came down to personal preference... Would I enjoy TFU more on the Wii because I have an actual Lightsaber that I will physically be using? Or will I be more dazzled by the next-gen graphic capabilities that The Force Unleashed will offer on the 360?

Well... I've never been too hung up on graphics. Heck, I still prefer CS 1.6 over CS:S, and I somehow managed to play WoW on the crummiest computer with an even crummier graphics card, and i still became completely submersed in the game.

With the Wii's exclusive Jedi Temple level & certain stages, the extremely cool Duel Mode, extra missions & characters, I think I'll be getting the most out of my money if I buy the game for this system instead of the 360. Knowing graphics aren't a big deal for me, which I found to be the only outstanding feature of TFU on the box. In my opinion it will be a much better experience to physically play this game with my very own Wiisaber. I don't want to control Vader's apprentice... I want to be Vader's apprentice!

So congratulations on 1+ customer, Nintendo Wii! I'm choosing your side!

Well, I'm not going to buy Star Wars: The Forced Unleashed, but the Wii does seem like the better choice.

Did you infer that the Wii isn't a next-gen console in that article? - "Characters & Missions - Five extra missions & Characters that wont be found on Next-Gen consoles" o_O

Yes I noticed that too, that seems really odd to me, the Euphoria seems like they tried a little too hard, I don't know, maybe it will be perfected for the game. Ill probably get the Wii version though. Gameplay beats graphics anyday

I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan, so I'll be buying Unleashed for both my Wii and PS3. Wii for the awesome gameplay and PS3 for the small graphics whore inside of me. If Microsoft announces exclusive DLC for the 360 I'll get it for that one too. Yeah, I'm that big of a Star Wars nerd.

The *other* next gen consoles

Features - Wii
'Explore five all-new missions and meet brand new characters not available on the next-generation platforms, designed to give players added insight to the Secret Apprentice and his dark motives...'

@FemmeFatale

can'tz you peoplz take that annoying links omitted thing off i'm mean sites like Roosterteeth and gamespot, imbrace user interfacing with images, links etc this gamepro (so called no. 1 gaming site *cough*) does even let users to get thier own avatars instead forcing us to use dodgey avatars grrrr!

okay now that i've said that i'd rather a 360 because i already have it i'm not buying a annoying wii for this

No not the Wi version! You have chosen the dark side. It should be good though for both systems and maybe by the time it's released Microsoft will have their half assed copy of the Wi motion controller out. The one they keep denying but is probably still on the way. You think they would have fixed the rrod first.

Nice article, being able to use the wii lightsabre does sound pretty bad ass. You'll just have to hope that the wii pulls through, wii games just haven't been doing it for me lately.

When we get a wii, and this game, we will be duct taping the wii nun chuck to our sfx lightsaber... for effect LOL

why give the wii multiplayer and not the other systems? thats just retarded on their part. Feels like a rent for me

I will get this for the 360 and the WII.... Get the best of both worlds.

If the controls are responsive for the Wii version, I'll be getting that one hands down.

I do want this on my wii, but I have seen the ps3 shots and I don't think I can ignore how sick this game looks.

I'll be gettin' the 360 version...I'm still not into the whole Wii motion gimmick

I play a game with realistic AI thinkin', that the gimmick Wii motion to sway me & play with retarded AI

Ill be getting the Wii version because it is the only new gen system I have. But once thing is definite I will be playing the game through on my roomate PS3 when he buys it. I am just hoping there isnt any "cool new things" added to the wii version that involve the wiimote, anyone know if it will be playable with a GCC?

I'll be picking up the 360 version since that is the only next gen. system I own. Hopefully this game will be good tho since preety much every Star Wars game i have gotten has disappointed me. Other than Knights of the Old Republic.

All I own are a Wii and DS, so it'll be Wii for me. Euphoria, Havok, and DMM all look fantastic though. If I owned a PS3 or X360, I'd have to buy both versions!

ill get it for both but i dont really care to much about the wii version cause the only time i play the wii is to have fun with family and friends ... ill play it for the 360 all by my self

the wiimote implementation looks cool, but I doubt they will execute it correctly (from what I read on the GP preview. and the graphics look great on the ps3 and 360.

I'll try to get both...but not at the same time. Probably the 360 version first for the graphics...and then do it all again with the Wii for a whole new experience-and the multiplayer of course.

xbox 360, but then again i dont ever console so w/e floats ur boat, waving or button mashing.

I'll find out if either console has an advantage, then I'll decide.

wow you're boyfriend is super lucky... chicks that dig star wars are totally SEXY.

Sexy cani? please pardon my manners

I want it for Wii for the lightsaber effect, but my boyfriend wants it for 360 for the Live achievements. So we'll probably buy it for 360 and GameFly it for Wii after the fact. :P
