Special Edition: Today in Geek

Now usually This Week in Geek is a once a week deal but today there is a special edition: Today in Geek. Today is special because so much has been announced already and the day isn't even near over! There is some pretty exciting stuff going down and instead of making a bunch of little posts I'm pulling out the big guns.

News for Today:

-To start us off right Doom 4 has been officially announced. Id Software has announced production of this game has begun. It is still in the earliest stages as they are still hiring people for the project. No other information has been given but this is sure to be an amazing game.

-Sales for Grand Theft Auto 4 have passed $500 million, $324 million in the first week. It has sold more than 6 million units across the world. It has sold $10 million more than Halo 3 did in it's first week. Also Microsoft confirms that the Xbox 360's sales have jumped more than 54%. Some reports even say that for every ten 360's sold at least one GTA4 was bought with it. PS3 console sales have also increased although no number was given.

-Amazon.com has reported that they are completely sold out of Wii-Fit pre-orders. That's about 2.5 units sold every minute for the past month. Via nintendowiifanboy.com

-More Nintendo news: The Nintendo Channel launches today. This is an online Wii Shop Channel, and it's free.

-Fight Night Round 4 has been announced for 2009. EA Sports has confirmed it will be released on the X360 and PS3. Confirmed characters include young Mike Tyson and Mohammad Ali.

sweet, hopefully doom 4 is a bit more promising than 3, its good to see more consoles being pushed as a result of the "gta4 bump"

So glad I pre-ordered Wii Fit. When I heard there were already shortages in Japan and the pre-orders we sold out in the UK I knew I better do it fast!

We are getting Wii Fit at work so I didn't have to worry about pre-ordering =] YAY for discounts!! Man all this news is exciting..I'm debating on Doom 4 though..I am a weakling when it comes to horror movies/games.

If they make Doom 4 a damn squad shooter, then I'm going to personally drive to John Carmack's house, knock on his door, and kick him in the junk when he answers.

Dooms all about being the lone Marine taking on the hordes of hell, and that's all it should ever be.

Doom 4! 3 fucked me up and that was on a 15"...on a 50" 1080p with 5.1 surround it may well kill me dead.

When are Nintendo gonna sort their shit out?! How long has the Wii been out? Its been in short supply and constantly sold out since day one and now their games are heading the same way?! This is a massive company, a gaming legend with serious issues of enterprise resource planning...or they're trying to boost their console's notoriety with constant "sold out everywhere" messages.
