Ironman: Movie Review

SPOILER ALERT!!!

If I could sum up my review of this movie in one word it would be, awesome. The first of the summer blockbusters burst onto the screen with amazing special effects, hilarious one liners, great sound effects and cinematography and the incredibly handsome Robert Downey, Jr.

One of the concerns I always have about movies based on games or comics has to do with the inability to stay true to the story line. In my opinion, special effects and animation technology is finally catching up with the creative genius that keeps people interested in comic book heroes and stories. The Iron Man movie stayed very true to the story line of the comic books and was able to incorporate great touches, like the theme music from the animated series. The casting was also done quite well, with Obadiah Stane and Tony Stark especially.

The biggest departure from the original story was in the location. The comic book takes place with an East Coast setting whereas the film is based in California. Jon Favereau stated he didn't want the repitition of other action hero films and since Tony Stark is based loosely on Howard Hughes, he filmed a lot where the former Hughes Company soundstages were located. There were also a lot of Air Force references and, as a prior service Airman, I can say they got most of it right; something most movies fail miserably at accomplishing. The only other major departure was the war of choice. To make the movie more relevant, the war was our current Gulf War as opposed to the Vietnam War of the comic.

Robert Downey, Jr. and Terrence Howard made for extremely talented (and absolutely beautiful) actors whose performances were believable. It has been said that Downey even ad libbed some of the lines that eventually stayed in the final movie cut, including a speech he gives where states, "Some say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I prefer the weapon you have to fire only once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." The dialog in the movie is great and quick-witted. It is fun to watch as the sexual tension between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts builds throughout the movie.

I don't want to give away too much of the movie because I encourage everyone to go and see it. This is the first of the planned trilogy, most of the actors have already signed on to do the sequels, and true to form, the ending is left wide open for the sequels. I also encourage you to stay until after the end credits. There is a hint at the sequel or, dare I say, spinoff. There is also the introduction of a new character and the actor slated to play him.

Sidebar: Get there early and check out the trailers for the new Indiana Jones, The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight!

And just in case you still aren't convinced...watch the trailer again!

Movie was amazing. I can tell Favreau was a fan. He got everything right that was relevant. Much respect. Iron man was my absolute favorite character growing up. I cant wait to see if/when Rhodey dons the suit....

@JChance: They are also making the Avengers film with Favreau again and the sequels. There will be a lot of cameos of each of the characters etc. Can't wait!!

Just got back from seeing this and it was great! Can't wait for the sequel, wish would have know to stay after the credits for more sneak peaks though.

If I wasn't broke I'd go see this, maybe next weekend

Just saw it and it was a great movie.

AH GAWD. I'll just write my not-so-conservative-review here since I'm still jittery and hyper!

GEEKGASM!!!

Followed the comics almost exactly, aside from a few differences, like Stark actually met Rhodey -as an injured airforce pilot- after the escape in his prototype suit. Blah blah, whatever!! Obviously the movie would go on for hours if they had to fit the exact story line from the comics in... Thing is they made it work. I'm satisfied.

Like, honestly. Right now I'm sort of in shock, so I don't have any good, valid reasons as to why it kicked so much ass, lol. It sort of had that Transformers contemporary feel to it. Like you can go take your friend who hasn't ever heard of Iron Man prior to the movie, and they'd love it.

Great job by Jon Favreau. I'm so excited for the sequel, already! haha. Restores my faith in Marvel movies, and Excites me for The Hulk!

i saw it at 12 and it was great. i was surprised at how good it was. great acting. very funny. and i got to see my batman preview so im happy. Next movie im goin all out on is THE DARK KNIGHT

lets not forget the Guitar Hero Song (Iron man by Black Sabbath)

I am....Iron man
duna duna..duna nanah ta

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he 'live or dead?
(Has he / Icy) thoughts with in his head?
We'll just pass him there,
Why should we even care?

The movie was great but after reading this review I just want to say how good this review is. I read it through again and it actually got me excited to see the movie.....and I already saw it! Good job.

It was an awesome movie! Great Review.
Also you need to go in and close off your html code because now everything just on your post is italicized.

I love this movie. It's not quite perfect but it is fun as hell.

And the sequel's on the way. Two, in fact, if you count the Avengers flick. Yay!
