I know everyone is so hyped up and excited over Grand Theft Auto IV and Mario Kart but those aren't the only games out there. I have actually been watching my boyfriend play some of the old games from the GameCube: Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
I know many gamers aren't "watchers" when it comes to video games. You like to actually be the one playing and you get so frustrated when the person who is playing makes a mistake that you think you could have avoided. But I personally LOVE to just watch people play games sometimes...especially role-playing games because then I could be the one concentrating on this intriguing story line while someone else is doing the hardcore battling and character leveling. Now I am an RPG nut..but I have never played either Tales of Symphonia OR Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles..mainly because I didn't get my GameCube until last year lol (I'm a collector of consoles what can I say?).
But sitting here and watching my boyfriend play these games that have interesting characters and plots I wonder why people don't get so excited about games like this? Yes I know they are "last generation" games and all of you spoiled gamers want the high-definition gaming experience but honestly I think because of this "HD gaming" developers have started to go with the whole "Quality vs Quantity" theory. They would rather give you a graphically beautiful piece instead of an intriguing set of characters with inner turmoils that you must delve deep to learn about and interesting plot twists that keep you wanting to play more. I know some developers would just say "well we gave you a great looking game" and your point is? Yay for good looking game and only 4-6 hrs of game play...what is the purpose of spending $60 on a game if its not worth replaying?

I think the strongest agreement I have with that people want story rather than how a game looks: Look at FF7. Comparing that game to current games, it looks dated and the like. However, I still pull that game out and play it due to the story and characters and the like. And if they were able to just update the game graphically, but keep the story, I think people would stand in lines for hours just to possibly get it.
Also, first :)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the best in terms of storyline greatness.
yes! yes they are i still play N64
hey im still playing the Legend of Zelda:OoT
yay..
But when Crystel Chronicles 2 comes out look me up we can make a party/clan...
I have to say I love some of the old games. For example: Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers, Sonic. They never get old. I think some developers realize that and make games that can be different. While others just want the quick fix.
i dontz play jap jap games (aka japanese games) but i the oldest game i play now is halo combat envolved
that's why I love xbl remakes...can't wait for the bionic commando game.
I'm still playing A LOT of older games -- NES all the way to last gen (I have a 2600 as well, but haven't pulled that out in a while).
I definitely agree with you on the fact that while games seem to be getting more attractive, they are indeed quite a bit shorter. I doubt we will ever see a current gen game with the length of, say, ES3: Morrowind.
