I was on pwned.com the other day and was talking to this guy who runs a site that lets you make your own levels and worlds in games. It's free, and its a really fun idea. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
Do you think user submitted content has a place in the gaming world?
Platinum Arts Sandbox is a free, open source, easy to use 3D game design tool that allows users to quickly and easily create and edit their own worlds in game, even cooperatively. The mission of the project is to make 3D Real Time Game Design accessible to all ages and levels of developers. The goal is to make it as easy and quick as possible for users to create their own 3D worlds and create their own games. It is already being used in some schools ranging from Middle School to College level. To my surprise girls have been equally, if not more interested in Sandbox as the boys. Girls of all ages, even as young as six, have been really enjoying creating their own worlds within Sandbox. Sandbox is a great tool to help get girls interested in video game design and for them to explore their creativity. I have already seem some incredible work by girls that included houses, furniture, gardens, floating islands with waterfalls, vast cave networks with underground rivers and waterfalls, and a hidden Dorito stash! Imagination is the limit with how easy to use and accessible Platinum Arts Sandbox is!
As a girl I can say I really like the creative part of gaming, as well as the actual playing aspect and I think other girls will and do feel the same way. Besides, who doesn't want to make their own video game!?!? It's every gamers dream.
