Do you hear gaming noises?

It's safe to say that I live and breath video games. I work part time at a GameStop and manage a hybrid Gaming RadioShack. And when I'm not working, what am I doing? Talking about video games or playing video games. But recently the more I've been doing the more I start associating small things to my in-game worlds. Now I'm sure everyone does this from time to time, but it's starting to drive me crazy.

Here's possibly my biggest example to date, one of my favorite bands is a band called Chevelle. They recently came out with a song titled "The Fad", I first heard this as I was driving to work on the radio. A few moments into the song I hear a sound that I don't think any gamer can miss -- the xbox sound. I've let a couple of gamers listen to it since then, and they all think I'm crazy.

What do you think?

The begining lyrics are;

"Soon the men
Taste their own normalcy
Ends that day
Consumed by all
Irrational thoughts depend
Then shape their tastes

Let's call it change
Let's call it change

Once the fad
Permeates
It's hip to care
It's hip to hate it"

When the singer hits the word "to" on the line "It's hip to care", It sounds exactly like the xbox360's start up noise.

Am I alone on my thinking of this matter? Or do others hear it to?

Just a little bit, the sound is made by the distortion in the guitar with a pedal, i think the flanger pedal, but yes, it sounds a little bit. But is nothing out of the ordinary,if you live surrounded by video games its normal to identify sounds or images in the real life, Yesterday i thought i saw a midget that looked that mario, same close and colors and he was also a plumber but it was actually a dog, just kidding. but yes, it did sound like the 360 start up. Farewell.

I've listened over and over again. I'm not hearing it. Are you talking about the actual octave in the notes of his voice? Or like, an actual sound of it?

The mixture of every noise in that one moment, for some reason make the xbox 360's startup noise. I don't know =/

I definetly hear the Xbox 360's startup noise. There are a few other songs out there that use sound samples from videogames as well. DJ Flip's "Game Over" had sounds from Pac-Man...and was promptly sued by Namco for coypright infringement, forciing him to stop selling that particular album with the song on it. I think there was also a song by Beck that featured 8-bit sounds...though from which game or games I cannot be sure.

I totally hear it lol that is freaky lol

I either feel like I'm hearing the sound of my phone goin off like I'm getting a text message or I hear the sounds of getting an achievement on my XBOX360 & I be so watching a movie...I'm like WTF I'm trippin' & go back to watching my movie lol

Okay, I hear it now. But, I can distinguish it. And it's not the 360 boot up noise. Kind of sounds like a flange resonating into a higher frequency. Probably from the progression in the backround that's playing with some pedal action from the guitarist. You have to listen closely to catch it.

And, whomever brought up Beck. He uses tons of 8-bit sines and such. Damn good tracks, too. His latest album is great. "We Dance Alone" tonight has most of 8-bit sine action going down.

Everyone has mixed views on it.

I think it's the xbox sound. And I stand next to my original view!

Lol, they didn't say, "Hey, we needz more xboxz right here." I stand by my flange pedal. And, I'm right anyways so.....

*head explodes*

I can hear it. I don't think it's intentional.

good music by the way.

I kind of hear the sound you speak of.

It's not a flange in my opinion. I think it is a vocal effect which he uses when he sings that part. The guitarist may be using a flange pedal, but the voice is making the XBOX sound.

Huh? That is curious.

Maybae someone was playing the 360 while recording in the studio, lol, no i still think that the sound still the same as the start up and it is made by the flange of the guitar, not the vocals. Farewell.

Thats a flange effect used during the chorus. They didn't add in the Xbox starting up. Thats not Chevelle's to do anything like that anyways. Pete doesn't need to add in stuff via a computer.

Yeah, like I said. I agree with robbie.

don't hear it...

I dont hear anything remotely close to an Xbox noise in there.

But I did see Chevelle at OzzFest once, and I saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to Gieco

i hear that noise all the time even in school im losing it!

Happens to me all the time. Whenever I play a game for a long time I always think I'm hearing the sound effects while I'm walking around outside. Case in point, when I hear a police or ambulance siren I think of Longhairedoffender crushing people in Mario Strikers.

i dont hear it. bunnyXablaze, u just hearn shit. but on a cereal note, its scary how u can look like 1 of my friends in 1 of ur pics then look a little like Averil Levinge in another (i dont know how to spell her name)
