Ghostbusters Game Rumors.

Oct. 8 2:14 AM by Navie

Rumors have started circulating as to whether or not the Ghostbusters Game will actually make release. Last month, it was reported that Gamestop cancelled preorders of the game across all systems and returned consumer money. In addition, the game is also no longer on their website's list of up and coming releases.

What we do know for certain is the game was scheduled to be released this fall, and has now been delayed to sometime in 2009.

According to Terminal Reality Boss, Mark Randel, the game will still be published:

Ghostbusters will be published, said Randel. Thats all I can say at the moment.

Months ago, when Blizzard and Activision merged to form the world's largest gaming coorperation, Blizzard was already in posession of other Vivendi properties, such as Sierra. Sierra and a number of their up and coming titles have now fallen by the wayside, which proves to not hold much hope for the new Ghostbusters title.

What is reassuring is the 3rd Ghostbusters movie is currently in production, and all four actors have not only lended their voices to the game production, but also have had a large part in writing the script as well. I think, in the end, it will only be a delay of the game and not a full on cancellation, mostly due to the popularity of the franchise and the upcoming movie. We will most surely see it one day, if not by Sierra/Activision, then by another company.

Until then just remember.... do not cross the streams.

Nostalgia Trip:

God, that game was a bitch, wasn't it?

frankly i wouldn't buy it.

Navie! What game is that screen (the 8 bit It looks funny XD

I have the Ghostbusters game on genesis. But I am defintely going to buy this game when or if it comes out.

Im going to get this. it looks like an awesome game. i remember seeing game play of this game. i think i was on one of the G4 shows. and i instantly wanted to get it.

Nice!! They'd have to be high to cancel the Ghostbusters game when it's this far along. Seriously, if 50 Cent gets a sequel, how could they cancel Ghostbusters? I would be very disappointed that it's pushed back to 2009, but honestly there's already so many games coming this Fall that I don't know if I'll be able to play them all as it is. At least it's coming, and a 3rd movie to boot. :) = a happy greensabre.

Okay you guys (and Navie) really brought out my inner nerd. I remember Ghostbusters 2 on NES and the awful turd it really was. And I know I'm in the minority here, but contrary to AVGN, I thought that the original Ghostbusters on NES was slightly less awful. Seriously, at least the original Ghostbusters was, well, an original Ghostbusters game. It followed the movie and emulated the Ghostbusters' financial issues even though it played terribly. I even liked it when I was little because it was Ghostbusters. The second game was no more than a generic sidescroller, but the game designers thought they were being creative by going against all gaming conventions at the time by having the player run from right to left, having 'B' jump and 'A' shoot, and making the aiming a complicated chore. If it was just a simple sidescroller everyone would have loved it. I guess I was also a little older, wiser, and more cynical when this one came out and I rightfully hated it.

Haha as greensaber called it, the screenshot is from Ghostbusters 2 for the NES and, very rightly put, hardest. game. evar.

I love the Ghostbusters movies. I watch both of them at least once a month, I don't think it would be possible to see these movies too many times.

I will be getting the game for the PC when it releases, and I cannot wait!

Oh, I didn't realize it was a question lol. I was so obsessed with Ghostbusters when I was a kid that I'd recognize that anywhere. Peter Venkman is still my idol. I may be a poor scientist, but at least the kids love me.

Eww, I guess that sounds kind of creepy. It's a quote from the movie lol. I still wish they would have made a game based on the animated cartoon series.

All GameStop stores pre-orders for the game were canceled and the money refunded. The first rumor was it was dropped from Activision but GameStop has been told it going to be pushed back to correspond with the release of a new movie.

Best Ghostbusters parody ever. Just delete the brackets.

Yeah for some reason Activision completely cancelled publishing this Sierra title. So right now they are hunting around for a new publisher. Hard to believe, with the new movie, that someone would not pick it up though.

GRRRRRREAT, i also love the ghostbusters, i saw the movies in the movie theaters (im 25), good thing i heard is that finally they will include winston this time (about time dont ya think). great blog.

@ greensabre
dude, you liked the first ghostbusters NES game? jesus christ, it only had like 4 diferent game scenes and too much gray.lol

Whoa, whoa, whoa, no I didn't like the NES Ghostbusters game. I'm not THAT big a Ghostbusters fan lol. I'm just saying that I liked it better than Ghostbusters 2 the game because it was at least original. I did like it when I was 6 or 7 and didn't know any better. But no Ghostbusters on NES is one of the worst games ever made.

However, there IS a decent Ghostbusters game on NES. I think it was called New Ghostbusters 2, and it was a top-down action game that played a little bit like Zelda. It was pretty rare and most people never heard of it.

I would really like to play this game...too bad we don't know if it or when it could possibly come out.

the latest rumor is ATARI has picked up the game.

i really hope it comes out soon. i want this game so bad. i loved the movies, cartoon, cereal, toys anything that was tied to this franchise.

I liked ghostbusters 2 for the NES, but it could be b/c I played it when I was 5 years old and it still hold that certain je ne sais que nostalgia for me.

I don't understand big words like je ne sais que.
