If you don't already have a PS3, now is a great time to go out and pick one up. The PS3 has good amount of games available now on their Playstation Network, and a lot of the systems launch issue's finally have now been tweaked if not fixed entirely. This fall and holiday season is actually starting to look rather bright for the PS3 as well with titles such as Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, Bioshock, Resistance 2, and the Last Guy.
If that's still not enough for you, what about this.
It's the new 160GB PSE bundle with Uncharted (my favorite PS3 exclusive title), a voucher for the PSN title PAIN and of course a DuelShock 3 controller, all for $500. No a bad deal. The system will have only 2 USB ports and no flash drive reader, also it looks as if it will not be backwards compatible with your old PS2 games, but that has not yet been confirmed. For me, no backwards compatibility is a deal breaker...but I know some of you don't see it as a necessity. If you do not have a PS3 yet, now is a great time to own one.
Also coming out for the PS3 this holiday is the wireless keypad for the PS3 controller. This will be my new best friend, responding to mail from friends on the PS3 is torture...this will now make responding a pleasure! This little keypad will snap right on your controller and it will not only make typing messages easier, it will also support chatting in HOME (whenever that finally comes out), and it will also have LittleBigPlanet support. One the keypad are also shortcut buttons, allowing you to bring up your inbox and type messages while in game. No official price yet, but expect to see it on shelves late this November.
While we are on the topic of the Sony and the PS3, why not a little PSP news as well. By now everyone has probably already heard of the PSP 3000 available this October with Ratchet and Clack: Size Matters. Sony has been quoted saying the PSP 3000's LCD screen has "a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colors, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors." Altho nothing extremely over the top new about this upgraded PSP, it is still an excellent excuse to get a PSP if you don't already have one...or if your current one is all beat up.
Like I said, this holiday season is going to be a great season for the PS3. Many reasons to go ahead and add one to your gaming collection. You can find me on PSN, my tag is simply Raychul. Hope to see you online!

Thanks for the update on the PS3. I have a short attention span and I like to get all my PS3 news in one place ..... ooooo, look a puppy! lol
i'll add yah =) mine is NastyN8
Welcome to the party.
The keypad looks nice, but i have two problems with it
It looks like it may make the controller unbalanced and heavy on the front end.
The way it straps to the controller, it looks like the BD&A controller glove won't fit on there with the keypad attached. (only comfortable rubber controller glove I've found, the Wii jackets are horrid and the 360 sleeves are well, what can you expect from Microsoft, not to mention those horrid creations for the psp and ds.
Well...looks like its back to the two SKU attack. This time around, the consoles are identical minus the hard drive difference and its bonuses. The Uncharted bundle is a pretty good deal although it would be nice if Sony started packaging component cables rather than old A/V cables I'd otherwise use on my PS2/PSone.
The news of the third-gen PSP (can we call it that?) is great but as you mentioned, my PSP has its bumps and bruises. The important thing is I can still game, listen to music, watch movies & twitter/pownce on it. No upgrade for me. I will say that Sony sweetened the pot by adding a 4gig Memory Stick to one of the SKUs.
As for the keyboard, I'm not a big fan of small qwerty keypads. For those who are, the option is there but for me, I'm fine with pulling my wireless Dell Keyboard & Mouse from my PC and plugging it to my PS3.
PS: Raychul, I added you to my PSN friends list (sf84_r3m1x)...granted it isn't full/maxed out by the time I do add you. =P Everyone else, feel free to add me.
I agree about the cables, I will say the one thing Microsoft got right was the ability to use their standard cables as either component or composite, Even if the system they were bundled with had the lifespan of a goldfish. I guess Sony is being both cheap on the cables, and what I can only assume is "letting you decide" between component and HDMI. ehh.
wholeheartedly agreed. Now that we're back to the "oh the PS3 is $500" argument, Sony needs to start advertising the PS3 as "HD-ready" rather than "yes, it can play your Blu-Ray movies in 1080p, here are composite cables to get you started."
As an aside, HDMI + overscan = FTL.
the new 160 gig has been confirmed not to have BC. but come on you got a PS2 already, and the 360 has a very limited BC.
just try to find an old 60 or 20 gig model and swap out the HDD with a much larger one. i know if i get a few extra hundred bucks i am gonna try to find atleast a 300+ gig HDD, i have a 60 gig that is down to my last 15 gig
sony's controller keyboard looks uncomfortable
the new PS3 package is alright. You can get a new Xbox 360 Arcade soon for $200, add on a 120 GB hard drive for an extra $180, plus any new game you want for $60, for a total of $440. Still got some money leftover for an extra wireless controller too.
But then you need a play n charge kit so theres 20 dollars you're spending on an accessory that seems a bit overpriced when you compare it to the PS3 - the sixaxis and DS3 both have internal batteries, and charge with a USB Mini-A cable that is included with the system, not to mention most households have approximately a bajillion of these USB cables.
And if you want WiFi you have to invest $100 dollars on an adapter, seems steep considering a Nintendo DS has WiFi built in and its only 30 dollars more.
and considering hard drives - you can pick up a Western Digital 320GB hard drive for LESS than the 120GB 360 drive.
hooray for proprietary accessories amirite?
not to mention again the 360 has the life expectancy of a carnival prize goldfish.
Now is definitely the time to own a PS3
That's a hell of a PS3 bundle, but it's still $500. If I didn't own a 360 and Wii I might buy it, but as of now there's at least $500 worth of stuff I could buy for the systems I already have. But kudos to Sony for staying competitive with the Ps3, I hope this bundle does well because it should.
I bought Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty last night and I have to say it's awesome.
That's a pretty good deal! Everything going BluRay now anyways,so if you consider that into the cost too, then it's really not that bad. I suppose $500 is a lot for some of the youngins though :p
PAIN is fun!! I <3 that game. Good pick there.
Mandy: Yeah the BluRay aspect is a huge buying factor. I watch movies on my PS3 all the time and damn they look gorgeous! :)
Yawns.
Last Guy is a really dumb game. also, how can Bioshock be a factor in buying a ps3 when its been out for a year on 360 and pc? it wasnt even a buying factor on 360
